Dorsal darkens the fur along the back of the Kirin, and ranges from a thin stripe along the spine to a thick band stretching onto the flanks, neck and face. This marking doesn't change the skin or eyecolour of the Kirin, which will display as it would normally for the colour.

This marking is always darker than the base or black, and should be close to the base in hue and saturation. Dorsal has crisp edges but may be blended into the base below slightly in some areas as long as it retains a clear edge. It's a symmetrical marking and can't form any distinct shapes or patterns, cannot have holes and will never display in patches or spots.

The mane and tail are affected and darkened where Dorsal touches.

At most, Dorsal may run from nose to tail, reaching roughly halfway down the neck, flank and hindquarters. Mane and tail may be fully darkened by the marking.
