Sooty is a marking that darkens the fur from the top down and often has a dappled appearance to it. It's always darker than the base or black, and should be close to the saturation and hue of the base.

This symmetrical marking is always soft edged and can't show any patterns apart from dappling. Dapples should be naturally spaced and sized, and evenly distributed across the coat. Dapples show the base colour below the marking.

Sooty may slightly affect the mane or tail where it touched. It will also never change the eye or skincolour of the Kirin.

Max.png
Maximal

Sooty can turn areas of the Kirin near black and may extend to the lower leg joints. Dappling is usually heavy throughout the marking.
